There are a lot of myths about hypnosis but there is nothing mystical about it at all. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind or focused consciousness in which everyone experiences. Have you ever been driving down the expressway and all the sudden realized that you missed your exit? What about being totally engrossed in a movie where you began to cry and empathize with the character? Realization that you have a bruise or cut and don’t recall when or where you got it? Daydreaming? These are all examples of everyday normal states of self-hypnosis. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is like meditation with the exception that it has a specific goal while encompassing complete relaxation of the mind and body.
While in a hypnosis session some people might experience a light level of hypnosis and may not feel any differently than their normal waking conscious state. However, some people do go deeper and might experience sensations such as tingling, heaviness or lightness, dissociation or extreme relaxation. While in hypnosis if often looks like you are asleep but this is not the case because you are not in an unconscious state of sleep. In fact, you are completely aware of your surroundings and most people report having a heightened sense of awareness, concentration and focus, and can even hear more acutely during a session. If there was an emergency, you would naturally be able to come out of the hypnotic state by opening your eyes and speaking or standing up.
There is a very simple reason why hypnosis works when it is used properly. Everything begins with your thoughts. Your thoughts cause feelings and feelings influence behaviors. When your thoughts change your feelings change which in turn causes your behavior to change.
During a virtual/online hypnosis session it is my job to learn how your problem works. That is why we will have a very lengthy conversation before any hypnosis is performed. Once I understand the nature of your problem and get a better idea of your specific goals, I then use that information to deliver positive hypnotic suggestions to your subconscious mind.
A successful guided hypnosis session is dependent upon how well you follow instructions and can completely relax both your mind and body. When hypnotized you become more receptive to positive suggestions, which allows powerful changes to take place very quickly. You can actually begin to notice a difference in your thoughts and feelings immediately following a single session. Typically, only a few sessions are necessary to produce lasting results.
I personally believe that you are not broken. Bad habits, fears, phobias, emotional and mental blocks have been learned, because they were learned they can easily be replaced with new positive habits and behaviors that actually support your goals in life. I believe you are capable of making changes. With hypnosis change takes place in a way that feels natural to a person, because we are not solely relying on your conscious mind. This is known as short term memory or will power. We are working with the most powerful part of your mind the subconscious. It is the part of your mind that contains your long term memory, as well as, all of your experiences, beliefs and habits. Its contents determine your personality, moods, emotions and more. By doing this we end those internal mental battles by getting all parts of your mind working together towards the same goals. Its harmony of the mind.
